Certified Mighty - Shizen

Deadpool Doink!

Name and/or Alias: Shinichi Tokiyo / Shizen

Location: Where no Kaiju would ever attack. Colorado.

Occupation: Freelancer.

Website/blog: N/A

Top five favorite movies: Full Time Killer, Battle Royale, Pulp Fiction, Ginger Snaps, Yakuza Papers series

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: Diary of the Dead, after watching [REC] (The original version of Quarantine), this movie was just the worst way for George Romero to go.

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: Waxworks 2

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? Either An American Werewolf in London, because all these vampire movies are getting old as hell or Beetlejuice. Because I love him.

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? Theaters, prefferably with friends.

Favorite movie moment: Can I just say anything with Heath Ledger as The Joker? If not, such a toss up between Ash’s first witty line in Evil Dead 2 where the Deadite was screaming “I’ll suck your soul!” and he points his shotgun at her and says, “Suck on this”. Or Full Time Killer where Andy Lau’s character challenges Takeshi Sorimachi’s character to a duel, takes him to a ware house and they have the conversation about Metal Slug along the way.

Comic/webcomic you’d like to see as a movie: A new Spawn movie or Dr. McNinja.

Favorite artist: Todd McFarlane

Favorite writer: Barry Eisler

What’s worse, Clone Saga or One More Day? Clone Saga. Hands down.

Floppies, trade paper backs, digital downloads, or webcomics? Paper backs.

Favorite comic moment: …Anything with Deadpool.

Mac or PC? PC for gaming, but Mac’s are pretty nifty with artsy-ness.

Henshin device: My bass. Playin’ a tasty jam just before Henshin’ing.

Battle cry: “Kaiju-A-Go-Go!” Or strings of foul things Yusuke Urameshi style.

Mighty finisher: NEO CRISIS RAVE! Where you get beaten to death with a nice flashy SNK style combo attack.

How did you discover the Angry Zen Master? Honestly I think I was browsing Google for a new comic to read and found AZM that way.

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: GamerZ with a Z not the good one with an S…dear sweet baby Cthullu that was a bad movie

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: Curse of the Cannibal Confederates

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? Visionaries, cause they fight with a magical light. And that song was eerily catchy.

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? Theater, IMAX when available

Certified Mighty - Lurch Kimded

Monday, October 27th, 2008 at 11:21 am by Jami

Lurch Kimded

Name and/or Alias: Adam “Lurch Kimded” Howie

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Occupation: Freelance Artist I think is the technical term, most people would say unemployed :)

Website/blog: http://www.realityofdreams.org.uk

Top five favorite movies: (not in order, nor technically five) Airplane!, Monty Python Holy Grail, Lord of the Rings trilogy - extended versions (I mean really its just one 12 hour movie), Batman Begins, Empire Strikes Back

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: Been a few, Meet the Spartans and Date Movie although they had a couple (literally) of small laughs had few redeeming features.

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: Red Wolf, any film which has a hacker scrolling through a word document to break into a ships safe which has uranium in it has to be so bad its good.

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? Uylsses 31… see if this time we can make the plot make sense

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? Cinema, although a big telly with a good sound system is sweet as well

Favorite movie moment: Hmm… er… most moments in a Monty Python movie… if I had to be specific, the Mr Creosote sketch in Meaning of Life, not the hole thing just the “wafer thin mint” and the wind up to the run from Cleese which is just sheer and utter comedic genius.

Top five favorite comics/webcomics: XKCD, Bunny!, Applegeeks, 3 Panel Soul, The Ongoing Adventures of ASBO Jesus

Comic/webcomic you’d like to see as a movie: Comic: Either a proper League of Extraordinary Gentleman movie, or a decent thinky Silver Surfer one :) . Webcomic: The idea of either an XKCD or Bunny! movie would so mind numbingly insane it has to be made.

Favorite artist: JMW Turner, closely followed by Giger and Roddney Matthews.

Favorite writer: Its a bit of tie between Neil Gaiman and JMS

What’s worse, Clone Saga or One More Day? Ouch… I would say One More Day, but only just as they should have just made a new title if they wanted a reboot that badly :(

Floppies, trade paper backs, digital downloads, or webcomics? I’ll take whatever I can get.

Favorite comic moment: At the moment, Cap A getting shot and so far staying quite dead, its rather refreshing… and well written

Mac or PC? Both, Mac for Art, PC for Gaming.

Henshin device: The Mighty-ultra-mega-mecha-thingy-whoda-cha-ma-bob of Thingyness

Battle cry: “I knew a guy who owned a Land Rover once!” and/or “Win Self-Determination for the South Moldavian People!”

Mighty finisher: the devastating and deadly “Irrelevant Information Overload!” the enemies puny mind cannot hope to hold the utter useless utterances that spew forth overloading their brains! Bwahahahahaha!

How did you discover the Angry Zen Master? I seem to recall that it was Applegeeks.

Certified Might - Vortigar

Monday, October 20th, 2008 at 8:27 am by Jami

Global Frequency iPod

Name and/or Alias: Vortigar

Location: The Netherlands

Top five favorite movies: Blade Runner, Gattaca, Edward Scissorhands, Empire Strikes Back, What Dreams May Come

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: Dragon Dynasty, it isn’t so much the dated sound effects, mega-campy storyline, the plain looking backdrops and costumes, nor the uninspired stage builders, it’s just the acting that killed it for me, sorry guys.

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: The Shadow, I got it on DVD and watch it once or twice a year. It’s one big chunk of awesome. “There’s your exit Claymore…” and “You don’t return my calls anymore.” “No, that’s not true, I never did return your calls”, ah classic! I don’t consider it a shitty movie at all, but most people seem to disagree.

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? The Running Man I think. But give it a different title so as not to give the impression of wanting to replace the original. Just update the ideas in there, such great yarns, such crappy execution, but the crappiness itself makes it a classic of course.

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? I think I’d have to say my own television. It may lack atmosphere and sound quality, but it more than makes up for it due to the fact you can either invite friends over and jabber all through it or watch it entirely alone to get entirely lost in the scenes. Had to google IMAX there…

Favourite movie moment: Blade Runner, Roy Batty’s final scene. Without the voice over! And including the conversation with Gaft. “You’ve done a man’s job sir.” (Next to: “Too bad she can’t live, but then again, who does” the best line in the movie.)

Top five favourite comics/webcomics: Transmetropolitan, Say Hello to Black Jack, Gilles de Geus (Bryant the Brigand), Y the Last Man, Global Frequency

Comic/webcomic you’d like to see as a movie: I’d like to see Global Frequency shot after all. They ditched the idea for making it a series after the pilot was created. The pilot can be found around the internet, it’s good stuff, but apparently the powers that be didn’t agree. Ellis got queried on this one at san diego comic con ’07, to hilarious result.

Favourite artist: William/Billy Tucci (Shi)

Favourite writer: Warren Ellis (figures, right?)

What’s worse, Clone Saga or One More Day? One More Day. I luckily haven’t been ‘touched’ by either yet, but the very concept of One More Day was enough to have me stare vacuously at my screen for a full five minutes.

Floppies, trade paper backs, digital downloads, or webcomics? T.P.B.

Favourite comic moment: Gilles de Geus, when Willem van Oranje (aka William the Silent, considered to be the founder of the Netherlands) loses his mind and sits in his backyard dressed in a piece of tablecloth telling everyone who asks that he’s now a shepard.

Mac or PC? PC, I never tried a Mac really, seems expensive.

Henshin device: An Akira (Virtua Fighter) statue

Battle cry: For the Emperor!

Mighty finisher: a corkscrew headbut after downing a bottle of vodka.

How did you discover the Angry Zen Master? Linked here by Applegeeks, which I was linked to by Megatokyo, which was pointed out to me by a friend on anime-forums.com. That was when you were still doing three panel comics.

Certified Mighty - Brendan Wiese

Cure For Procrastination

Name and/or Alias: Binky ( or Brendan Wiese while in the company of anal-retentives )

Location: Shackled to my computer somewhere in Penticton, BC, Canada (willingly - so don’t send help)

Occupation: Electrician / Digital Art Hopeful

Website/blog: http://www.starbow.com

Top five favorite movies: The Boondock Saints, Volcano High, Army of Darkness, Kung Fu Hustle, and Night Watch

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: Ju-On 2

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: Tank Girl

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? Jem, but only if I get to ‘audition’ the starlets, and they’d better be outrageous… truly truly truly outrageous…

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? Theatre. IMAX just makes you look like a bobble head watching an image that damn big.

Favorite movie moment: “See this acorn? I’ll throw it at you and turn you to stone!” “Ooh, I’m really scared. No! Don’t! There’s a- a peck here with an acorn pointed at me!”

Top five favorite comics/webcomics: Cerebus, Preacher, Transmetropolitan, The Watchmen, Excalibur

Comic/webcomic you’d like to see as a movie: Preacher, though I don’t know how the hell they’d pull it off…

Favorite artist: Masamune Shirow - he draws a girl’s ass so well you just want to sink your teeth into the picture

Favorite writer: Guy Gavriel Kay

What’s worse, Clone Saga or One More Day? Clone Saga wins, ’cause I was only stupid enough to watch one of the two choices…

Floppies, trade paper backs, digital downloads, or webcomics? Trade Paperbeacks, ’cause it’s tough to balance your laptop while perched on the crapper.

Favorite comic moment: Cerebus meeting Dave

Mac or PC? Yes. Digital Artwork, mac hands down. Anything else, PC.

Henshin device: flat of Red Bull - once you get 24 RBs in you, you’re ready for ANYTHING.

Battle cry: “Relax. This’ll hurt you way more than it hurts me…”

Mighty finisher: in a fistfight, it’s the “Pin the Testicles to the Sinuses with a Still-Twitching Swordfish”; in the bedroom, it’s the “Standing Helicopter” ( if she stays on, she’s a keeper ).

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: The Skeleton Key

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: toss up between Fallen and End of Days, endings sucked

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? Thundercats

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? 1. Theater 2.Computer

Certified Mighty - Elucidarian

Monday, September 15th, 2008 at 8:13 am by Jami

Totoro

Name and/or Alias: Elucidarian

Location: Amber Waves of Grain

Occupation: Archival Specialist

Top five favorite movies: Back to the Future, Dark City, Dazed and Confused, Donnie Darko, My Neighbor Totoro

Worst movie you’ve ever seen, ever: The worst travesty in a movie for me is the total disregard for how physics should apply to homo sapien sapiens with no fantastical plausibility. Thus, my hate on Superman IV culminated with Mariel Hemingway’s lack of horrible death when taken to the moon in an elevator. I cringe at the thought of it.

Best shitty movie you’ve ever seen: I don’t know. Buckaroo Bonzai, perhaps?

If you were forced to make a remake of a classic film or 80’s property, what would you pick? I’d have to go with “Outlaws” (CBS 1986-1987), which attempted in 11 episodes to suggest how a group of late 19th century cowboys would handle life in the present? I have a soft spot for people out of time and place, though I think it’s seldom been done effectively.

Where do you prefer to watch your movies, IMAX, theater, computer, television, or iPod? No IMAX near enough, so theater it is.

Favorite movie moment: That implicit moment of hesitation when Old Ben Kenobi decides what to tell Luke about his father, though the reason for his hesitance isn’t revealed until Empire. How many films premeditate like that, really?

Top five favorite comics/webcomics: Order of the Stick, Girl Genius, For Better Or For Worse, XKCD, Penny Arcade

Favorite artist: Rebecca Guay, totally.

Floppies, trade paper backs, digital downloads, or webcomics? These days, webcomics, but I savor digging through my old floppies (like the long-lost box just found in my parents’ basement. Joy…!).

Favorite comic moment: When the repercussions of killing his father dawn on Legion.

Mac or PC? PC

Battle cry: Let the consequences suit the crime!

Mighty finisher: A slam of my fist to the parched earth which reverberates in the leaching of all color, sound, and substance from the world about me, the horde of encroaching enemies instantly reduced to white, ash-thin shells which collapse before my eyes in the evening breeze and are gone. [Dissolve]

How did you discover the Angry Zen Master? I have way too much web surfing backlog to recall the particulars. What matters is that of all the nooks and crannies I encounter, only a few shine with such peculiar light as AZM.
