Point Broken

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 at 10:39 am by Jami

Point Break Indo

Since the release of Point Break, for the past seventeen years, hardcore fans of both Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze have vigorously petitioned for the two of them to work together again.

That sounds like load of festering donkey sperm I just made up in my brain meats, but it must be true because RGM Entertainment and Essential Entertainment are producing the sequel, Point Break: Indo. The sequel, written by W. Peter Iliff who penned the original, takes place 20 years after Swayze’s character escaped capture.

No word on casting or plot besides the fact that it will be filmed in Southeast Asia. Alls I know is, if Swayze isn’t there and Reeves isn’t there then I won’t be there either.

Frank Miller’s Spirit Has Creepy Oedipus Complex

Monday, April 21st, 2008 at 12:04 pm by Jami

Okay, I know this is supposed to be played for drama, but this teaser trailer for The Spirit movie is downright creepy. She is my mother? She is my lover? Geez! And I thought Bats was nutso.

It’s also fairly clear that The Spirit will be Sin City’s spiritual bastard child. I do remember seeing a lot of blue in the comic, but that’s just from covers. Having never actually read The Spirit I’m not one to judge if the technique fits the mood of the comic. I like the style and will probably check it out in some form, either theater or DVD.

Thanks to Wayne W for the heads up.

America’s Next Top Joe

Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 1:57 pm by Jami

More pictures of the Joes have surfaced and it seems to me like they’re all auditioning for America’s Next Top Model. Really, who could blame them. The winner gets a $10,000 modeling contract with Cover Girl and… oh fuck it. Let’s take a look.

Scarlet and Cover Girl

Here’s Scarlet and Cover Girl. I don’t remember Cover Girl from the original G.I. Joe, but apparently, she was there. I was expecting to see Lady Jaye. Ah well. They both look great though how Scarlet breaths in that thing is anyone’s guess.

Snake Eyes and Duke

Obviously Snake Eyes bought tickets to the gun show. Chicks dig the gun show. Duke is sad that all he has to show off is an actual gun. Chicks don’t dig real guns as much.

Rip Cord and General Hawk

Rip Cord and General Hawk are confused. Why do they have to pose for Tyra? What’s going on? General Hawk looks especially confused. Or maybe that’s constipation.

Baroness and Storm Shadow

Baroness has some yellow fever. And why not. Stormy has those sexy eyes and fluffy terrycloth outfit. You just want to hug him all day.

So if everyone is wearing some version of black skin tight leather armor, how do we tell the Joes and Snakes apart? The X-Men called. They want their leather back. Except for you, Stormy. Go on with your fuzzy self!

Thanks to Hawk and Marty and everyone else for tip!

Tetris, the Movie!

“Life is just blocks trying to fit together to make lines.” - Randal Hunter

Indeed.

I would pay good money to see this, especially in the 3D IMAX. Sadly, it’s just a parody.

Downey Jr. Bringing Blackface Back

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 at 12:35 pm by Jami

Robert Downey Black Face

Here is the trailer for Tropic Thunder starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. Observe:

I laughed my ass off. Robert Downey Jr. playing a white actor playing a black man is somehow entirely too absurd. I fell on the floor with tears in my eyes.

So why is this funny while “Under One Roof” is shudder worthy? Clearly this is just a modern interpretation of blackface and there’s nothing all that funny about blackface.

For me, the funny is in the reactions of the people around him. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but from the preview it’s pretty clear that everyone around Downey thinks he’s absolutely nuts. Blackface is so incredibly wrong and yet, it somehow works in this context. It’s Downey’s absolute commitment to the role that makes it so right.

Unfortunately, this aspect of the film threatens to overshadow the actual plot. I don’t think I could watch this without marveling at how wrong it is to see Downey in blackface and how wrong I am for laughing horribly at him. I no longer care what the hell is going on as long as I get to be horrified at Downey in blackface.

So fair readers, will I burn in hell for laughing at something so wrong or does this smell of the awesome?

Oh Speed

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 at 11:43 am by Jami

Speed Racer

As you know, there’s this Speed Racer movie that opens May 9. And thus far, I haven’t been all that thrilled with the prospect. So reader Devin Wolfe sent me links to an extended featurette and an international spot with tons of extra footage.

Well…

This isn’t for me and I know that. And I can pretty much guarantee that it’s going to make a shit ton of cashola. The Wachowski’s will somewhat redeem their lackluster performance with the Matrix sequels with a home run summer blockbuster.

To me, it looks like a shiny demo reel. I realize that the source material isn’t exactly award winning. It was a big deal here because at the time it was different, but it doesn’t hold up. I’m a big fan of the Fast and Furious series so this should be right up my alley. And I recognize how much work it takes to make shiny graphics like that. But I can’t get into this.

Chances are I’ll see this in the theater anyway. And if it comes out in 3D, that will probably be enough to fool my small brain into thinking it’s full of awesome sauce.

Snake-Eyes

Friday, March 21st, 2008 at 8:50 am by Jami

Snake-Eyes
*faint*

Snake-Eyes
Pant… crunchy… *faint*

As bad ass as this is, I can’t help hearing a tiny voice in my head shouting “None shall pass!” when I see Snake-Eyes. HA!

So I’m pretty much going to see this now. Yes, yes, it’s pretty stupid to see a movie just to watch a sexy ninja dressed in all black and probably sneaking around in shadows. But sometimes, you just have to see a sexy ninja sneak around in shadows. Check out that big ol’ vein popping out of his bicep and them veins popping out of his forehead! That suit is tighter than skin.

Thanks to Dave Reimer for the heads up.

New Wanted Trailer

Monday, March 10th, 2008 at 4:13 pm by Jami

Best. Fraternity. Evar!

I mean, I was in a co-ed frarority in college, but we never had sexy assassin chicks who could drive like that!

Some say that this looks like a solid adaptation of Wanted, others have told me that it’s way off. I still have to grab the graphic novel, but what ever it is, this movie looks hawt! Oh, the pants! THE PANTS!

Thanks to reader Devin Wolfe for sending this over. You can watch it in HD and various other flavors over at MySpace’s Trailer Park.

Mila Kunis Joins Max Payne

Monday, March 10th, 2008 at 11:56 am by Jami

Max Payne

Mila Kunis of “Family Guy” and “That 70’s Show” fame stars opposite Mark Wahlberg in the live action adaptation of Max Payne. Though I think Kunis will be just fine as an assassin out for revenge and though I quite like Markey Mark in action films, video game movies have yet to impress me. There is always the “just plain dumb fun” aspect to these films that can be entertaining given the right circumstances, but generally, video game movies work best as in-game cinematics. Once you extend those to a full length feature, you begin to see that writing for one medium does not always translate.

I have heard good things about the Silent Hill movie so I will have to check that out at some point. But the genre has yet to hit its sweet spot. I think a movie based on a shooter probably has a decent chance. Doesn’t seem to be too hard to pump out a semi decent action flick. And with the built in audience, you’re guaranteed at least a strong a opening night. And it’ll be nice to see Kunis on the big screen. So who knows. Having not ever played Max Payne, I have no real basis to judge this thing. Any gamers out there think this is a good casting?

The Waldo Ultimatum

Friday, March 7th, 2008 at 10:49 am by Jami

Reader Lars Gronholt sent me this parody of the Bourne Ultimatum that’s pretty damn funny. Who knew Waldo could kick so much ass?
