Comic Book Flicks Archive

Well, I can’t say I mind seeing my favorite comics up on the big screen. But sometimes, man, they should have just let them alone. You just can’t condense some books into a two or three hour flick.

Animated G.I. Joe Movie Written By Warren Ellis!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 at 2:16 pm by Jami

“Ninja? I didn’t know we had a ninja.”

More spy footage.

I like the new style of animation. And I’m a big fan of everything Warren Ellis writes. This is a trailer for G.I. Joe Resolute, an animated feature written by Warren Ellis that, if this trailer is any indication, is full of the win. I like how the little Vipers are using P90s (I think those are P90s. My gunfu is weak) and are shooting bullets instead of harmless lasers. And everything is better with Snake Eyes. I am looking forward to this much more than the live action movie.

Batman: Crisis on Infinite Gothams

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 at 1:26 pm by Jami

Angry Zen Minion Kevin Bahrt found this awesome mashup of all the movie incarnations of Batman. Well, except for Adam West.

Clearly, I think Christian Bale’s Batman kicks all other square in the teeth. Keaton’s Batman just doesn’t hold up. And although Val and George were decent enough as Bruce Wayne, their Batmen left a lot to be desired. However, Christian’s Batman voice still makes me chuckle.

So, including all movie and television incarnations, who is your favorite Batman?

The Spirit In Shit

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 at 1:05 pm by Jami

Not sure how long this vid will last, but AZM Ally Marty dug up a short clip of the Spirit and the Octopus fighting in a shallow bog of shit.

Wow.

So that’s pretty much the shittiest spy footage I’ve ever seen. Before I was mildly curious. Now I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to see Frank Miller’s The Spirit. Shit does not equal edgy or modern. Shit equals shit.

Shit.

Gatchaman Cast Concept Art

AZM Ally Mike Dent sent along this concept art for Gatchaman’s Science Ninja Team. I really like the redesigns, especially Jinpei’s. I’m a huge fan of that red and orange/yellow color scheme. And I love how Ryu needs extra stomach armor to hold in his might. Awesome! It’s not a full CG shot, but if the models are based off of this concept, they’re going to look so shiny and awesome!

Italian Spiderman’s Mustache Attack

Monday, August 11th, 2008 at 9:27 am by Jami

This is the finale of the first ten part Italian Spiderman movie. You can catch the whole ten part series at their YouTube channel.

I was completely duped when I saw the trailer. Turns out that Italian Spiderman is a modern day parody filmed to look like those wonderful exploitation films of the 60s and 70s. As low budget as it is, I would have paid good damn money to see this in the theater had I known Spider-Man 3 would be so awful. Can’t wait for part 2 of Italian Spiderman. Nothing beats a giant luchadore vs a pudgy Spiderman!

Gatchaman Got Back

Gatchaman Back

We’ve got more Gatchaman pics! Here we see the Science Ninja Team heading off to be awesome. If you head on over to Felix Ip’s blog you also get a peak at Jun’s yoyo and an early version of the Phoenix.

I definitely like the lighting and the color palette of these shots. The art direction is quite good. Yeah, I think I’ll actually watch this in the theater.

Gatchaman is Fast and Furious

Monday, August 4th, 2008 at 10:58 am by Jami

Gatchaman Fast and Furious

You man think that this looks like a still from the Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift game. In fact, it’s a CG production still from the upcoming CG feature adaptation of Gatchaman.

Angry Zen Minions Kevin Bahrt and Devin Wolfe both sent along these CG renderings from Imagi. Very shiny. Joe’s car looks very muscley like you’d expect from Joe. I’m more interested in how the team will look. Part of me wants this to be live action because it would just be so awesome to see people in Gatchaman suits. However, Imagi’s take on Astroboy seems fairly decent from what I’ve seen so this might be freaking awesome. Looking forward to what they come up with.

Watchmen’s Doctor ManAss

Doctor ManAss

Devin also sent over some new posters for the Watchmen movie and I must say, I’m impressed. I love how Dr. Mahnattan’s bare ass is hanging out in the wind! I don’t entirely hate the Ozymandias poster. And the Nite Owl is starting to annoy me less. The rest are freaking brilliant. The more I see The Comedian and Rorschach, the more I get excited about this movie.

I have seen the trailer in the movie theater. Having no previous familiarity with the comic, Audrey freaking loved it as has almost everyone I’ve talked to. So I guess it’s just me.

I Haz a Munkie Pole

Monday, August 4th, 2008 at 8:43 am by Jami

Goku Monkey Pole

Angry Zen Minion Devin Wolfe is a sick twisted bastard for sending me more pics of the EmoBallz movie. I may be more sick for inflicting such travesties upon you.

Here’s Jason Chatwin holding a monkey pole. I totally know where he should stick, said monkey pole. To be honest, I don’t blame Chatwin for this disaster. I’m sure he’s a nice enough guy. And hey, if producers wave a fat check in your face, why not take the gig? The blame rests entirely on the producers. They should be beaten about the head and chest. I think the monkey pole should go straight up their asses!

There is a pic of Jamie Chung as Chi-CHi and Eriko Tamura as Mai so if you’re curious, head on over. But you’ll just ruin your day.

Sexy New Watchmen Pics

Thursday, July 31st, 2008 at 12:33 pm by Jami

Rorschach

Angry Zen Minion Devin Wolfe sends word that Empire has posted four new exclusive Watchmen pics including a big stinking closeup of Schach’s face. Comedian is spot on and I definitely like the Owl ship. Nite Owl and Silk Spectre are slowly growing on me, but I’m not totally won over. Still, from all the set pics and the trailer and everything else so far, I’m almost certain this adaptation will be as faithful as possible to the comic. They’re really using the comic as one big storyboard which is something any comic geek can appreciate.

Wonder how Alan Moore feels about all this. Watchmen certainly looks better than any of the other adaptations of his stuff.
