Demo Reel Archive

These days, sometimes movies look more like CG demo reels than actual film. Yessir, sometimes too much CG is just too fuck much.

Trixie Has Tony Stark’s Back

Would you like to see deleted scenes from Iron Man? Me too!

*droool* Okay, so I’m a big post production geek.

I definitely like the awkward takeoff sequence.

Babes on a plane! Hiyo! I’ll be here all week folks.

Really want to know where this scene would have fit.

Everyone needs a virtual answering machine!

Crimson Dynamo, eh? Didn’t get a copy of the script, did ya.

Wow, I want that job.

Gatchaman Cast Concept Art

AZM Ally Mike Dent sent along this concept art for Gatchaman’s Science Ninja Team. I really like the redesigns, especially Jinpei’s. I’m a huge fan of that red and orange/yellow color scheme. And I love how Ryu needs extra stomach armor to hold in his might. Awesome! It’s not a full CG shot, but if the models are based off of this concept, they’re going to look so shiny and awesome!

Gatchaman Got Back

Gatchaman Back

We’ve got more Gatchaman pics! Here we see the Science Ninja Team heading off to be awesome. If you head on over to Felix Ip’s blog you also get a peak at Jun’s yoyo and an early version of the Phoenix.

I definitely like the lighting and the color palette of these shots. The art direction is quite good. Yeah, I think I’ll actually watch this in the theater.

Gatchaman is Fast and Furious

Monday, August 4th, 2008 at 10:58 am by Jami

Gatchaman Fast and Furious

You man think that this looks like a still from the Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift game. In fact, it’s a CG production still from the upcoming CG feature adaptation of Gatchaman.

Angry Zen Minions Kevin Bahrt and Devin Wolfe both sent along these CG renderings from Imagi. Very shiny. Joe’s car looks very muscley like you’d expect from Joe. I’m more interested in how the team will look. Part of me wants this to be live action because it would just be so awesome to see people in Gatchaman suits. However, Imagi’s take on Astroboy seems fairly decent from what I’ve seen so this might be freaking awesome. Looking forward to what they come up with.

Tyrese Brings Sexy to Thundercats

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 at 10:07 am by Jami

Sexy Tyrese

“The thunder is my penis.”

Sorry, couldn’t resist the Dr. Horrible joke.

At a press junket for Death Race, Tyrese revealed that he’s been heavily involved in the Thundercats movie adaptation. That’s about it. No word on what character he’d play or if it’s still going to be a CG feature as Warner Brothers announced last year. So let’s turn on the internet speculation machine.

I think if it’s going to be Beowulf style CG where the models are based on the actors (well, except for Beowulf), Tyrese would make quite the awesome Panthro or Mumra. You know, I think he’d make a decent Lion-O as well. If he’s just providing voice acting, really anyone would work.

I’m not sure I’m entirely looking forward to this movie. But I like Tyrese well enough. We’ll see.

Resident Evil CG Movie

Friday, July 18th, 2008 at 10:19 am by Jami

Zombies on a plane!

Resident Evil: Degeneration from Sony Pictures is a full CG movie, kind of like Final Fantasy: Advent Children. The movie takes place seven years after the “Umbrella Incident.” A lone zombie somehow gets into an airport and unleashes its zombie fury. Soon, the airport starts filling with zombies and a good time is had by all.

There’s going to be a big RE:Degeneration panel at Comic-Con next Friday from 1-2pm so if you’re going and you likey the zombies, head on over and grill the film makers. I bet there’s going to be some additional footage to get you all hot and bothered.

I’m guessing this is heading directly to DVD. Zombie fun for everyone!

VideoTrace Lets You Trace 3D Objects From Video

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008 at 1:18 pm by Jami

AZM ally Hawk sent over this video demonstration of VideoTrace from The Australian Centr for Visual Technologies which basically allows you to create 3D geometry from video footage. You literally just trace the object you want to model and poof, instant 3D object! I imagine that the source footage must have a good amount of parallax for the trace to work properly. If you only manage to get a side view of an object, there wouldn’t be enough visual information to denote depth. Freaking awesome!

This would be perfect for quickly modeling buildings in a location shoot to be destroyed with visual effects. I can imagine lots of gaming, tv, and film applications for quick and dirty effects and modeling.

Brendan Fraser Should be Left in the Center of the Earth

Monday, June 23rd, 2008 at 10:08 am by Jami

True to form, Mikey D returns with more movie shitness. This time, Brendan Fraser returns with an ill conceived remake of Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Okay, so not every movie this summer will be good.

Must we really dig up all the classics just because we can redo the effects with high priced CG? Ugh. Not that I’m a huge fan of the original. But why the hell bother digging this thing up? I suppose those who remember the original all have kids now and might take them to see this waste of film, but really, this is a stupid remake. The only possible entertainment value might come from seeing this in 3D. But then you’ll remember that you’re shelling out $15 for an IMAX movie and wasting gas for CG porn. Actually, CG porn would probably be more entertaining.

Blur Studio’s A Gentlemen’s Duel

Monday, June 9th, 2008 at 8:51 am by Jami

Not sure how long this will be up, but AZM regular Kevin Bahrt dug up Blur Studio’s short film, A Gentlemen’s Duel. Blur is an effects and animation studio that has amassed quite an impressive portfolio including work on this year’s Super Bowl and the Transformers video game. In their spare time, they make awesome short films. This one in particular is full of the awesome because it features giant steam punk robots beating the shit out of each other!

Oh, and there be jiggly boobies. If you’ve got kiddies, you should screen this first before showing it to them. Some parents may object to boobies and implied sex (butler FTW). Others may not. The kids, to be sure, will probably be more impressed with the giant fuck robots anyway.

You can purchase a full resolution widescreen version of A Gentlemen’s Duel for $1.99 or rent it for $.99 over at iTunes.

Transformers Special Effects Test

Thursday, May 15th, 2008 at 4:27 pm by Jami

Here’s some special effects test footage of Optimus Prime that Michael Bay used to help Hasbro envision what a live-action Transformers movie might look like. Somewhere along the way between this test and the final film, the production design went through a few changes. A bit of a shame, really, because I feel that this little snippet is actually superior to the effect work we saw in the movie.

Thanks to Solkana who posted the link on Twitter.
