Just because it’s on the internets doesn’t make it so. But it’s fun to speculate!

Cher to Play Couger–Er–Catwoman in Batman 3

Monday, August 25th, 2008 at 10:22 am by Jami

Cher

So this should be taken with a giant salt lick, but apparently, Cher is in talks to play Catwoman for the third Bat flick. According to a stuiod exec:

Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.

Hmm…

If you’re going to go that route, I kinda want to see Eartha Kitt as Catwoman instead. Personal preference, but she’s always been my personal favorite for Catwoman. I think she’d make an excellent Cougarwoman.

So what do you all think? Does Cher plus Depp plus Hoffman equal win? Does an aging Catwoman interest you? Is this all just bullshit?

Look at the Little Spartan Children Play

More Halo Concept Art

Angry Zen Minion Partick Vick sent along some more concept art from that new Halo movie pitch. Look at all the kiddie Spartans playing on the obstacle course! Not depicted is the cafeteria where they can’t have any pudding if they don’t eat their meat.

Latino Review has a higher res version of the pic. Apparently, M$ served them with a cease and desist which they promptly ignored since this is concept art for a pitch and not an actual movie. Not sure how long it will be up so you may want to snag soon.

Afro Smaurai’s Love Below

Afro Samurai

Angry Zen Minion Devin Wolfe writes in to let us know that Samuel Mother Fucking Jackson is looking to develop a live action movie adaptation of Afro Samurai and would like Andre 3000 to play the title role. I totally missed the boat with Afro Samurai since we don’t have cable. But if Andre 3000 signs on, I’m buying a ticket! That would just be so fucking awesome.

What do you Afro Samurai fans think? Want to see a live action flick or would a full length animation be more satisfying?

When Spartans Attack

When Spartans Attack

Angry Zen Minion Epoch9 writes in to report that the Halo movie is back on! Sorta.

The Halo movie that involved Peter Jackson, Weta, FOX, and Universal is no more. Dead, dead as a doornail. Dead as a grunt with a plazma sword through his scrawny little head. Dead as all the Arbiters that have fallen before you. Dead as the… you get the picture.

But like a Flood infected corpse, the Halo movie rises anew. Apparently, screenwriter Stuart Beattie has decided to take matters into his own hands and has written a spec script based on the novel Halo: Fall of Reach. My brother always told me that if I was going to read a Halo novel, it should be that one. Fall of Reach serves as sort of a prequel to the first game and explains the origins of the Spartan project and Master Chief.

Beattie is shopping out his script complete with concept art by Kasra Farahani (Latino Review has a higher res version of the above image) and has a presentation all set and ready for Microsoft.

Crossing fingers and hoping this comes to light and doesn’t fall to the game movie curse.

Cowboy Beebop Starring Keanu Spiegel?

Friday, August 1st, 2008 at 9:07 am by Jami

Cowboy Bebop

Live action Cowboy Bebop movie? Okay, could be fun.

Live action Cowboy Bebop movie produced in America for Fox? Uh… well… almost kind of makes sense.

Live action Cowboy Bebop movie produced in America for Fox starring Keanu Reeves? NO!

I sincerely hope that this rumor that Angry Zen Minion Kevin Bahrt sent over is just that. There is indeed a live-action Bebop flick in the works at Fox but rumor has it that Keanu Reeves is up for the part of Spike Spiegel. No, no, no, a thousand times NO!

Keanu’s usual trick of starring blankly and delivering monotone dialog just doesn’t fit a hard boiled, Lupin inspired, noir ass kicker. I’m not entirely certain who I would pick, but Keanu isn’t on my list. Maybe someone like Josh Hartnett or James McAvoy (okay, that’s probably a stretch), but not Keanu and certainly not Shia!

Might as well go ahead and play the casting game. So who would you cast as Spike? Better yet, who would you cast as Jet, Faye, Edward, and Vicious?

Captain Jack Nigma?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008 at 12:20 pm by Jami

Jack Sparrow

Hollyscoop is reporting that Johnny Depp will play Edward Nigma in the next Bat flick along with Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin. Hmmm…

I think Riddler is definitely the way to go and I believe Depp could turn in quite a moving performance. I think Hoffman is quite a good actor, but Penguin? Not so sure about this. No telling when the next one will go into production, but if this rumor turns out to be true, the next Batman flick could be quite mad. Kind of worried that there’s no rumor of a strong female lead, but I guess movie Gotham is an old boys club.

Tyrese Brings Sexy to Thundercats

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 at 10:07 am by Jami

Sexy Tyrese

“The thunder is my penis.”

Sorry, couldn’t resist the Dr. Horrible joke.

At a press junket for Death Race, Tyrese revealed that he’s been heavily involved in the Thundercats movie adaptation. That’s about it. No word on what character he’d play or if it’s still going to be a CG feature as Warner Brothers announced last year. So let’s turn on the internet speculation machine.

I think if it’s going to be Beowulf style CG where the models are based on the actors (well, except for Beowulf), Tyrese would make quite the awesome Panthro or Mumra. You know, I think he’d make a decent Lion-O as well. If he’s just providing voice acting, really anyone would work.

I’m not sure I’m entirely looking forward to this movie. But I like Tyrese well enough. We’ll see.

X-Men First Class From FOX?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 at 12:26 pm by Jami

X Men First Class

Got this interesting tidbit from Angry Zen Minion (I’ll figure out a good title one of these days) Devin Wofle. Apparently, if you point your browser to x-menfirstclass.com it redirects you to the Sony Pictures FOX site.

Time for some good old unverifiable speculation.

There is, of course, the Marvel mini series “X-Men First Class” starring the original lineup of Cyclopse, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, and Iceman with Professor X teaching them how to control their mutant abilities in their teen years. It seems unlikely that Sony Pictures FOX would base their movie on the comic since Iceman and Angel would both have to be infants if we were to follow Jean, Scott, and Hank as teens. Although, if Wolverine:Origins is successful, they might indeed do a film about Xavier’s first class. If we base it off the movie continuity, we could have Jean, Scott, Hank, and Ororo.

There was that Young X-Men project that Sony FOX was rumored to be interested in, in which case we’d have Bobby, Kitty, maybe Rogue, Jubilee (yay!). Hopefully, Ellen Page isn’t big enough to be beyond comic book movies. I could stand to see a movie with more Kitty Pryde. I would appreciate an X movie without Wolverine for a bit.

I suppose it’s possible that Sony FOX just parked the domain, but I suspect that there’s more to it than that. What do you all think?

UPDATE: Thanks for the fix Devin.

Jar Jar Fucking Binks in 3D!

Thursday, July 24th, 2008 at 11:10 am by Jami

Star Wars 3D

The head of DreamWorks Animation Jeffrey Katzenberg told ComingSoon that George Lucas is contemplating re-releasing all six Star Wars films in 3D. Apparently, he has the technology to build them faster, strong. Better? Hmmm…

I admit that I stood in line when the original trilogy was re-released with all its digital wiz bang special editioness in theaters (Han shot first dammit!). I thought the digital enhancements were fairly tasteful (well, except the Han thing. That still annoys me) and didn’t distract from the movie.

The thought of Jar-Jar Binks in 3D makes me vomit in my brain meats. But the thought of wearing nerdy polarized glasses in the theater makes me, um, unvomit in my brain meats. Episodes IV through VI could be very entertaining in 3D. Granted, it does suck quite a bit to pay higher ticket prices to see something you already have multiple versions of, but honestly, it’s better than remaking Star Wars all together, an evil trend that I fear is here to stay. I am somewhat cautiously optimistic on this one. 3D might be just the thing to get audiences back into theaters.

Return of the Gray

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 at 8:50 am by Jami

Gandalf

Although no contracts have formally been signed, AZM regular Devin Wolfe reports in that Sir Ian McKellen has confirmed he will be back in gray for Guermo Del Torro’s Hobbit.

After months of speculation, the cinematic legend that is Sir Ian McKellen has confirmed that he is indeed preparing to dust off his grey wizard robes and cultivate himself a long, flowing beard to play Gandalf in Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of The Hobbit.

Well, I haven’t had the contract yet but it’s everyone’s intention that I play Gandalf so yes, I will be returning to the role. Although it’s not until 2010, I’m very much excited about returning.

Well, if you’re not going to have Peter Jackson, who else can handle the job? To get an international film-maker of his standing who adores the original trilogy, well I don’t think you could possibly find a better replacement. I think the look will be very much as it was, Weta is still involved, it’s still the same workshops, the same designers, I’ll be there, Andy Serkis (now confirmed to return as Gollum) will be there and Peter Jackson will still be around - not that he’ll interfere too much - so it’ll seem like the old family is getting back together again.

Don’t you just want to hug him!

So happy! Del Toro. Ian McKellen. Andy Serkis. Weta. Hobbit nerdgasm FTW! I totally have a rager now!
