Will and Mike are back to discuss cosplay horror stories, cosplay harems, the real purpose of the anime con rave, and the horrors of Otakon 2008 including Artist Alley Tablegate. Apparently, some asshat bought a giant block of tables at Artist Alley for his family and friends who all sold the same friggin art. Or something.

You know, after hearing about all of this insanity, I’m kind of glad I didn’t make it out to Otakon this year. Yikes!

Mike and the Gooberzilla from The Greatest Movie EVER! podcast review the absolutely insane The Machine Girl. I remember seeing a trailer for this and being absolutely horrified. And from the review, it sounds just as insane as I suspected. I think I’d have to be in the right mood to see this and certainly it would have to be with a group of friends who are prepared for a gorefest like none other.

Not only is AZM Ally Mike Dent an amazing podcast drama producer, turns out he’s also a pretty decent filmmaker. Dare I say genious?

Shot in 2004, Mike Dent captures the madness that happens when two Ah-nold impersonators go one on one. I absolutely love the fight scene! The slow mo stuff is fucking brilliant! You can certainly tell his action directing is influenced by Tokusatsu.

I really hope he’s got more of these lying around cause this is mad fun!

Nick, Marty, and Jamie recount their epic journey to see an early screening of Dark Knight. They put out the idea that a third movie could never hope to be as good as Dark Knight. I’d be satisfied if no other versions of this Batman came out. Money dictates that more will be made, of course. But I could live with just Dark Knight.

They also talk about the browning realism in games (blech) and the disappointments of E3. I’m thinking that the hype that used to surround E3 has migrated over to PAX (hopefully. Actually going this year). And there’s more!

AZM Ally Mike Dent returns with another conversation with Card Captor Will. The lads talk about their disappointment in the latest batch of Go-Onger toys, which Super Sentai series holds the record for most mecha, their disappointment in Kamen Rider Kiva (same here, Mike), and various other toku goodness. Will and Mike will be heading to Otakon next weekend so I expect we’ll have some sort of wrap up podcast after that. And who knows, I might even venture up there to finally meet Mike Dent in person!

AZM ally Mike Dent comes at us with two podcasts today! First up is part one of Mike’s conversation with Tokusatsu stunt phenom, Mark Musashi. He talks with Mark about Yo-Yo Girl Cop, Rider and Sentai shows that he’s seen, martial arts, and one of his worst injuries on set. Episode 52 of R5 Central is up! Mike collects all the usable audio he recorded from this year’s Anime Central and explains why this year may have been his last ACEN. Part of it includes his own version of Super Geek Wars, Hot Blooded Fan Throw Down. They run it like a tournament with brackets and all, winner takes all. Hells yeah! Oh, and Peelander Yellow stops by to, um… well… shout.

R5 Central will be heading to Otakon in August. I may just have to pop on over to harass him.
