SUPER ART FIGHT TOMORROW!

Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 10:35 am by Jami

Tomorrow night, Baltimore becomes a battle ground! Super Art Fight comes to the Ottobar. We’re really excited that we’ve made it this far. If you’re near Baltimore, come on by and witness the madness. Show starts at 9pm, doors open at 8pm. All the artists will have tables with swag to sell, including me for once! If you can’t make it, we have a film crew that will be recording the event. Once we get it all edited, we’ll upload the footage so everyone can share our insanity. And this is just the beginning!

White Rappers Hate Art Fight

White Rappers Hate Art Fight Stencil

What’s this? Could it be a stencil for great Art Fight justice?

So for those tuning in a bit late, this Saturday’s Super Art Fight is in fact the second time we’ve run the event. Our first show was met with insults on the part of one MC “I’m a ten year old homophobic pot head.” So instead of beating of dead horse (okay, so I’m still fucking bitter), we decided to turn MC Chris’s snub into an ad campaign. We sprayed some posters and shirts over at Nick’s place on Saturday. If you see some of us running around with them on, now you know why. The next step, get video of actual white rappers declaring they hate Art Fight right before they go on stage to perform at our show! Oh, the awesomeness!

Check out Nick’s Flickr page to see photos of the posters and shirts.

Super Art Fight is Next Saturday!

Friday, September 12th, 2008 at 9:05 am by Jami

You may well get sick of me extolling the awesome virtues of the Super Art Fight all next week. But serious, it’s going to be freaking awesome! Audrey and I will have a small merch table. Audrey will be selling some really cute Quintapod plushies that she’s sewn by hand. I’ve got some screen prints that I’ll be selling. I’ll have a video of both posted sometime next week. And of course, we got a whole box full of limited edition Super Art Fight Monskey toys for sale.

The suggestions for topics to draw are really great. Any ones we miss this time around will be saved for the next event so keep them coming. There are also some loose plans for an online version of Super Art Fight. The winners might get invited to participate in the live event. But we’ll have more on that once we actually set something up.

Next Saturday, September 20th, six artists attack the Ottobar with some of the sickest art you’ll ever see performed live! This is just the start people. It just gets better and better from here on!

Super Art Fight Sept 20 Details

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 at 1:04 pm by Jami

Super Art Fight Flier

And I quoteth:

Since ARTFIGHT took the Ottobar by storm on June 1st, people everywhere have been asking…when will the next battle rage across Charm City? Worry not, dear fan, as ARTFIGHT upgrades to the next level and SUPERARTFIGHT takes The Ottobar to the next level on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH! Here’s just a smattering of what you will see at The Ottobar, in beautiful Baltimore, Maryland on 9/20:

  • Preliminary Art Battle: Michael S. Bracco vs. Jamie Baldwin
Both fighters are making their debut on the SuperArtFight stage on September 20th, with not just impressions to be made, but a grudge to be settled as well! For these competitors, not only are they looking to work their way up the SuperArtFight rankings, but it’s also about SPAGHETTI! Michael S. Bracco, creator of the popular indie comics BIRTH and NOVO, has been making waves across Baltimore using the name SPAGHETTI KISS. Ironically enough, Jamie Baldwin, the first female art fighter and creator of the webcomic SUDDEN VALLEY, has been making HER name using the title SPAGHETTI KITTEN. It’s pasta based KITTIES AND KISSES raging their way to the Ottobar stage, and ONLY ONE can be VICTORIOUS!
  • Preliminary Art Battle: Garth Graham vs. Chris Impink
This is one for the ages, folks! Two Virginia based webcomickers are making their way to Baltimore on September 20th with something to prove! For Garth Graham, creator of Comedity, it’s to show that his artistic victory at Katsucon 2007’s Iron Artist competition was NO FLUKE! For Chris Impink, artist of Fragile Gravity, it’s to take back the creative crown that was his in the first place, as founder of the Iron Artist Competion, and to rise to the top of SuperArtFight! The Battle for the “Old Dominion” is on, and it’s only one place–SUPERARTFIGHT: ROUND ONE!
  • Main Event Battle: Jami “AngryZenMaster” Noguchi vs. Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz
Ever since ARTFIGHT’s debut at the Ottobar on June 1st, people have clamored for a victory…and on September 20th, we’re going to give it to you. After battling to a draw this past June, AngryZenMaster and Ghostfreehood will go toe to toe in the main-event of SuperArtFight: Round One. While the other competitors have 30 minutes to battle in free form, these gentlemen will compete using the main event rules….5 rounds, artistic topics chosen by YOU, the fans…ONLY ONE HAND WILL BE RAISED IN VICTORY. Be there for the carnage.

If these 3 bouts weren’t enough, SuperArtFight: Round One will also feature performances from not one, but two bands (to be announced on SuperArtFight.com in the month of August), a set from DJ Sheephead of The Megadrives, as well as a variety of local art vendors, including the six competitors mentioned above.

Tickets are available now at TheOttobar.com, for just $10!

SuperArtFight: Round One

Doors at 9pm, Show starts at 10pm

Netsketch Art Fight

Monday, July 14th, 2008 at 1:47 pm by Jami

Want to take your Art Fight on the road? AZM ally Hawk sent along this awesome Netsketch app for the iPhone and iTouch that lets you collaborate and battle on a shared canvas which appears to be infinite (infinite canvas, *groan*). It’s all vector based so you can draw as big or as small as you like without loosing image clarity. You can pick it up from the iTunes store for $7.99.

So… anyone got a spare iTouch lying around? I would love to try this out, but I have neither device. Ah well. It would be interesting to see a web application that does the same thing. You’d have to agree on a time to battle, but I think there’s a lot of potential there. Hmm…

Super Art Fight Date Changed to September 20!

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 at 10:12 am by Jami

Hey all you SAF fans! As it turns out, the Ottbar is booked to the gills on September 13. We could try to sneak in there and coordinate with all the other acts, but it sounds like a ruddy nightmare. So instead, the Ottobar is giving us the entire freaking day of September 20! We don’t have to worry about other acts getting all pissy and kicking us off the bill. It’ll be all us!

I’ll post more details as we hash them out. One of our ideas was to invite local artist to display their swag for an artist alley type deal. With an entire day available, we might do something like an artist alley during the day and main event in the evening. We’ll have to work those details out. But for sure, my favorite band in the universe, Peelander-Z, is playing the Ottobar on the 25 so we will be giving away tickets for the show! We may even have a special guest or two. More as it develops.

After the long weekend, we’ll be getting together to plan things out so we can start booking artist tables, maybe grab some sponsors, and start the ball rolling.

Super Art Fight returns to Baltimore September 20! Fight ON!

Video of Mom and Son Competeing in an Art Fight!

Friday, June 27th, 2008 at 2:34 pm by Jami

This is so freaking awesome! I seriously teared up.

After a successful white board marker fight, Kate and her son Bodhi compete in a second Art Fight. I love the drawings on the glass doors. Such a great idea! Bodhi’s brother, Ethan, filmed the fight.

Thanks a lot Kate, Bodhi, and Ethan! I expect to see more awesome art from you guys.

Super Fan Art Fight

Kate Howe Super Art Fight

Super Art Fight has its very first fan entry!

Kate Howe and her 4 1/2 year old son Bodhi were inspired by our Art Fight video and did their own white board drawing using the themes of our competition! Freaking awesome! The kid has talent.

Great job Kate and Bodhi! I understand next time there will be video!
