Super Art Fight Date Changed to September 20!

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 at 10:12 am by Jami

Hey all you SAF fans! As it turns out, the Ottbar is booked to the gills on September 13. We could try to sneak in there and coordinate with all the other acts, but it sounds like a ruddy nightmare. So instead, the Ottobar is giving us the entire freaking day of September 20! We don’t have to worry about other acts getting all pissy and kicking us off the bill. It’ll be all us!

I’ll post more details as we hash them out. One of our ideas was to invite local artist to display their swag for an artist alley type deal. With an entire day available, we might do something like an artist alley during the day and main event in the evening. We’ll have to work those details out. But for sure, my favorite band in the universe, Peelander-Z, is playing the Ottobar on the 25 so we will be giving away tickets for the show! We may even have a special guest or two. More as it develops.

After the long weekend, we’ll be getting together to plan things out so we can start booking artist tables, maybe grab some sponsors, and start the ball rolling.

Super Art Fight returns to Baltimore September 20! Fight ON!

Video of Mom and Son Competeing in an Art Fight!

Friday, June 27th, 2008 at 2:34 pm by Jami

This is so freaking awesome! I seriously teared up.

After a successful white board marker fight, Kate and her son Bodhi compete in a second Art Fight. I love the drawings on the glass doors. Such a great idea! Bodhi’s brother, Ethan, filmed the fight.

Thanks a lot Kate, Bodhi, and Ethan! I expect to see more awesome art from you guys.

Kate Howe Super Art Fight

Super Art Fight has its very first fan entry!

Kate Howe and her 4 1/2 year old son Bodhi were inspired by our Art Fight video and did their own white board drawing using the themes of our competition! Freaking awesome! The kid has talent.

Great job Kate and Bodhi! I understand next time there will be video!

Super Art Fight on Facebook

Thursday, June 19th, 2008 at 12:19 pm by Jami

I just made a Super Art Fight page on Facebook. I hope this link works. Join up to get the latest updates on the greatest live art event in the history of mankind! Or just keep reading AZM for the latest. Let the whoring continue!!

Note, I don’t know if a page is better or a group is better for what we want. We just want a place where facebookers can hype up artfight and all that stuff, but I’m not sure which works better for that kind of thing. Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated. As you can see, I’m kind of just winging it.

Super Art Fight Invades Baltimore September 13!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 at 1:11 pm by Jami

Mark your calendars! Art Fight returns in its Super Art Fight format to the Ottobar on September 13! It’s a Saturday, we’re on the main stage, and we’ll be arting in the afternoon so it should be easier for folks to get to. No word on streaming yet, but we will be filming the event (the footage from our first Art Fight is being edited. I will post as soon as we get it finished). There will be a $5.00 cover charge to help cover rental of the space.

This Saturday, Nick and I will be filming (and possibly streaming) an art jam of us creating the poster for the event. If we can manage it, we will be making some screen printed limited edition lithos of the poster to sell at the show. We will also have custom Super Art Fight toys on hand for sale designed by Nick. So freaking cool! I can’t wait to get those in. Any additional swag that we have left over will be sold online somewhere. The website is currently being built (it won’t take a genius to figure out the url) and we’ll let you know as soon as it’s launched.

Lots of awesomeness in the air. Depending on the success of this first big show, we might be doing Super Art Fight every three months. More as it develops!

Derailed Podcast - Art Fight Recap, Hulk and Indy Review, and More!

Thursday, June 12th, 2008 at 10:03 am by Jami

Marty and Nick finally have a name for their podcast, Derailed. This time around, they talk a little more in depth about the whole MC Chris situation. I know we’ve officially squashed the beef with it’s two patties and special sauce, but I’m still a might bitter as is Nick from the sound of it. The lads also talk up Incredible Hulk which they got to see a sneak preview earlier in the week. Bastards! And they have a HUGE announcement about the future of Dead of Summer and a new project in the works. Kicking it up a few notches as always. Bam!

Going to be featuring some more podcasts (okay, probably just two) so I hooked up a new category. Now go check out Derailed!

Official Super Art Fight Snack

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 at 12:57 pm by Jami

Is your work day sluggish because you lack super? Do you get hit by a sudden bout of anti-awesome around 3pm? Are you in desperate need of flavor kicked up to notches never before seen? Then you, my friend, are a perfect candidate to try the official snack of Super Art Fight!

Super Art Fight is all about mixing things that don’t necessarily go together for ultimate win and our official snack food is no different. Head to your local grocery store and grab a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos from the snack aisle (the bigger the better) and a thing of hummus from the deli (the tahinier the better). Go home, invite over a bunch of friends, break open the Doritos and hummus, dip a chip into the hummus, and prepare your face for super infinite flavor!

We don’t know what makes this hummus dipped Dorito so incredibly awesome. But we inhaled a monstrous bag of Doritos and hummus in a matter of minutes as we planned Super Art Fight. So. Fucking. Good. Seriously, when 3pm hits you at your little cubicle, break out the Doritos and hummus and end your day with super flavor!

To further extol the yummy virtues of the hummus, I found this little ditty on the YouTube. Enjoy your super snack!

Let’s Squash teh MC Chris Dramas

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 at 12:39 am by Jami

We’ve had some good old fashioned internet dramas regarding MC Chris’s infamous “art fag” diss. And like most internets drama, this one may have sprung from a slight misunderstanding. Nick, from Dead of Summer, has some more info to enlighten us.

I was talking to a guy who works Ottobar yesterday while I was out buying comics. He happened to work the night of the show and happened to mention that he knew Chris. Basically the story goes that Chris was told about Art Fight last minute without a heads up from his booking guy. Unfortunately, no one could tell him what AF was so- since he approves all of his openers- we got the boot. To be fair to us- it was our first bout. It’s not like we had done this in that setting before.

MC Chris was also quoted giving an open mind and interest to Art Fight. Saying that he didn’t know and-Was it something that might go along with the show? One of the ideas that came to mind was a music act. Since it was held at a rock club, you don’t expect a live comic related art demonstration/battle (even though that’s what it was billed as).

Still, he did call us Art Fags and Lame on stage. There is no reason for that. However this was a comment made at the carelessness of the club’s upstairs dj- not us. I made sure Art Fight was finished by the time he took the stage. I was enjoying the show when Chris made those comments. There was loud distorted bass coming from the direction where we just were. Which coincidentally, was not my fault. The noise was interrupting his show. I’ll give him that.

It sucks that all of this is a huge misunderstanding. His problem lies with a shitty circumstance that has nothing to do with us. It sucks but what are you gonna do?
I’m going to go see him at Warped Tour. So you can see I am a fan. I love his new album.
I’m just happy I can get back to enjoying it.

It was fun to be caught up in a psychotic art nerd drama but it’s useless to soil a name that doesn’t need to be soiled. For all parties involved. The Ottobar loved Art Fight. That’s why we’ll be back soon. The Ottobar loves MC Chris as well. It was the first venue he ever sold out. Hopefully Art Fight will have a similar story.

I have to agree with Nick. At this point, there’s no point in nurturing the drama. MC Chris was miffed at the shitty loud music and blamed us because he thought we were still arting. No one bothered to tell him we weren’t on anymore and honestly, there’s no reason that anyone would have. It comes down to a big misunderstanding all around, although, no one misunderstood him calling us “art fags.” That’s so 80’s. Oh well. Probably best to just move on and leave him be.
