Unofficial SGW - Star Wars vs Star Trek

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 at 9:37 am by Jami

Reader Kevin Bahrt sent this little gem over my way.

Alright, I’ll weigh in on this one. While I think that throwing Tie Fighters at Starfleet’s flagship vessel is probably like throwing a bucket of a flies at a bug zapper, Star Destroyers would probably give the Enterprise a run for its money. Sure, they don’t maneuver as well as say a Klingon Bird of Prey. But they’ve got some hefty firepower if I’m not mistaken. Also, a direct hit from the Death Star would certainly make Number One number two all over himself.

Then there’s the Force. If the Enterprise were to encounter the Empire in the first three movies, the good ones that we still geek over, the Force would be an overwhelming advantage for the Empire. Darth could just force choke a bunch of engineers and BAM, there goes your dilithium crystals. However, if the Enterprise were to encounter the Star Wars universe as told by the prequels, Geordi and Data would figure out that it’s created by metachlorians midichlorians and either synthesize some on their own or figure out some way to neutralize them, thus rendering the Force a moot point.

I think it would be a bit more even than the video portrays, but the editing is quite clever.

Note: Thanks to Guiguioh for the spelling correction.

Unofficial SGW: Robocop vs. Terminator

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 at 10:31 am by Jami

Reader Kevin Bahrt dug this up on the Tube You:

Nice piece of editing. Frank Miller actually did a comic, Robocop vs. Terminator, that I really loved. He reworked the Terminator mythos so that Robocop was used to create SkyNet (if I’m remembering correctly). There was this awesome scene where SkyNet creates a Robo/Terminator in the future. I’ll have to dig it up sometime. Wonderful crossover.

Anyway, who do you think takes this one? Physically, they’re probably comparable in strength. They can both punch through walls and ED-209’s without much of a problem. In terms of armament, Robo has that awesome fully automatic hand gun, but regular bullets don’t do too much to either of them. You need some high powered ammunition to make a dent. Tactically, Terminator comes loaded with all sorts of programming that allows it to adapt to all sort of combat situations. Robo has his human brain meats. Time and time again, sci-fi portrays the human mind out witting even the most sophisticated artificial intelligence, but I’m not so sure. I think if a combat system was designed to truly be dynamic and adaptive, Terminator would probably be able to out think Robo and possibly anticipate Robo’s tactics. Murphy’s experience may make him unpredictable, but SkyNet can analyze human combat in ways we can’t yet fathom.

So, who takes it? Who’s robotic cuisine reigns supreme?

Boob Calibur IV Geek Wars!

Friday, January 11th, 2008 at 5:18 pm by Jami

I genuinely get excited about the Soul Calibur series any time they announce a new game. Okay, besides Ivy’s fun bags getting bigger and bigger and defying more and more laws of physics, the actual combat is inspired by real world martial arts. Love it. So imagine how hard I geeked all over myself after hearing that Yoda and Darth Vader were entering the tournament! HELLS THE FUCK YEAH! And now, I can play the damn thing! I can’t wait until this drops!

Super Geek Wars: Logan vs. Manji

Friday, December 14th, 2007 at 3:57 am by Jami

No voice over for today because really, there’s not much to say. Both are, for all intents and purposes, immortal. Logan’s healing factor ensures that short of a tactical nuke, you’re not killing him. And Manji’s blood worms ensure that he’ll be around long after Rin is a great great great grandma. Both are vicious when it comes to a brawl and both are willing to maim and kill because that’s just the way they are. Logan has a slight advantage with his Adamantium skeleton and blades. No matter how many times Japanese steel is folded, it can’t cut through Adamantium. Logan can smash pretty much anything that Manji is carrying. Still, I think this is a pretty fair fight.

You know the drill! Who’s immortality reigns supreme?

Unofficial SGW: Colonials vs. the Empire

Monday, December 3rd, 2007 at 11:28 pm by Jami

I know I’ve been slacking on the Super Geek Wars (SGW), so reader Kevin Bahrt sent me this:

It’s the Colonial army from Battlestar Galactica versus the Empire from Star Wars. Clearly, who ever did this has put much more time and effort into his ultimate battle than I have with my sketches. Oh wells.

I think a better match up would be the Cylons versus the Empire. Both have seemingly inexhaustible supplies of pilots to throw at each other. Both have giant, monolithic ships with hoards of fighters on board. Both are really ill tempered. Pitting Galactica against a fleet of Star Destroyers is a bit unfair. Although the pilots of the Galactica are much better than the Empire’s clone troops, there are so many more clones than there are Colonial pilots. Eventually, they’ll run out and the Empire will claim another victory.

How do you guys think these two fleets match up?

Super Geek Wars: Kratos vs. Dante

Friday, October 26th, 2007 at 1:43 am by Jami

Looks like Samus easily took Storm in last week’s SGW. Will this week be a similar blow out?

This week’s round, it’s Kratos vs. Dante! Behold the sketching and the casting!

It’s berserker vs bounty hunter! Can cool overcome CARAAAAZAY?!

Oh, wanna see a high res version of the pic? Get with the clicking!

Super Geek Wars: Samus Aran vs. Storm

Friday, October 19th, 2007 at 3:17 am by Jami

Wow! Last fight was really close. Vash won by one percentage point!

This week, another ladies night. It’s Samus Aran vs. Storm.

It’s the ultimate battle between nature versus technology!

By the by, please excuse the mess. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to use the sketchcast jitsu. If it sounds choppy, please let me know in the comments. I might have to switch to something else.

UPDATE: Freaking GRRRRR! Checked out the cast on a PC and it’s still choppy and gross. Sorry sketchcast, you just don’t do it for me anymore. Poop. Sorry about the shitty quality here. Next week should be much better.

Super Geek Wars: Vash the Stampede vs. Spike Spiegel

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 at 10:22 pm by Jami

The Major soundly kicked the shit out of Alita last round. This week I’m bringing another sketch cast as we pit Vash the Stampede against Spike Spiegel. Unfortunately, I don’t know all that much about the characters, so you guys will have to fill in the blanks.

Getting a little more comfortable with the software. The audio is a bit choppy for some reason but eh, we’ll run with it. Oh, if you play the “um” drinking game where you take a swig every time I say “um” or “uh,” you’ll die of alcohol poisoning before the sketch is done. Enjoy!

It’s bounty hunter versus pacifist, guns versus guns (oh yeah, you got tickets to the gun show!). Who’s cooler? Who’s more badass? Who’s machismo reigns supreme?

Super Geek Wars: Major Kusanagi vs. Battle Angel Alita

Friday, October 5th, 2007 at 2:04 am by Jami

To my surprise, Riddick won the last match! Wow, I thought for sure the Fett fans would rally. This week we’re pitting Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: SAC against Battle Angel Alita from Last Order. I’m also trying something new this week so instead of just a static sketch and some text, here’s a sketch cast to set up the match.

It’s elite soldier versus ultimate street fighter, calculation versus passion. Who takes it? Who’s machine reigns supreme!?

Super Geek Wars: Boba Fett vs. Riddick

Friday, September 21st, 2007 at 2:04 am by Jami

Boba Fett vs. Riddick

Last week’s battle of the babes ended with Asuka taking the win with her Eva Unit-02. This week, it’s sexy man on man action.

I hesitate to do this because I fear that anyone in the Star Wars universe will win almost just because of name recognition. But here goes. Boba Fett versus Riddick. Riddick hates mercs and Boba Fett loves the cash. For the purposes of the fight, we’re going to make both of them planet locked, no Slave-1, other transports, or any other vehicle that would give either an advantage. And just to make things interesting, let’s plop them both in a burned out urban setting. That should make the playing field somewhat equal. Let’s see how they stack up.

  • Boba Fett will need Riddick alive or proof of the kill so, and I’ve always wanted to say this, no disintegrations. Still, Boba Fett has all kinds of fun gizmos in his armor, flame throwers, beam weapons, that nifty cable, a rocket or two, grenades, and probably a whole lot more depending on who’s writing the script. That makes things a bit nasty for Riddick who usually only has a blade on him of some kind. As a Furyan, he is bred for war. He can easily use any weapon he comes across. For argument’s sake, let’s say the battle field will have some weapons lying around. But I honestly don’t think he’d need them. Riddick relishes the close kill and would do all he could to close distance with Fett. And since he easily adapts to any environment, it’s going to be difficult for Fett to keep Riddick away even with all his weapons.
  • As far as I can tell, and my information is probably inaccurate, Boba Fett doesn’t do much hand to hand. He’s a sneaky bastard with weapons galore, but I suspect he’s better at shooting a mother fucker than shivving them. Riddick can do both. He can kill at a distance or close up. My guess is that if Riddick can indeed get close, Boba Fett is going to have a tough time. Yes, he’s got the armor, but Riddick has a way of finding weak spots. If Boba Fett manages to keep Riddick at a distance, things could get a bit hairy. I figure at a distance, they are pretty well matched.
  • Both seem to be even tempered and cool under fire. Both are excellent tacticians, able to analyze and adapt to new situations fairly quickly. Neither will be able to rattle the other so psychologically, again they’re both evenly matched. Riddick may be a bit more sadistic, but Boba Fett is probably more cold.
  • Both are loners although Riddick may have a soft spot somewhere. As the movies indicate, he will protect others when he feels attached. He may not be as calculating as Boba Fett. But in a battle field where it’s just the two of them and countless burnt out buildings, Riddick won’t have time to develop a soft spot.
  • It’s the ultimate mercenary versus the ultimate bounty, high tech versus hand to hand. Who takes it? Who’s more of a sick sadistic bastard? Who’s evil reigns supreme?
