My wife sent this to me this morning to help start my day. AWESOME!
The Monkey King, Pig, and Friar Sand have journeyed the West. Now, the trio head East for the Olympic games.
This animation is freaking bad ass! And if it looks kind of like the Gorillaz, it should. Jamie Hewlett, the mind behind the look of the Gorillaz, is one of the producers of the short. There’s a little production feature on the animation that gives a little insight on what it takes to create a two minute piece of extreme bodacity.
What the hell is the crazy little dragon saying? Ah, who cares! It’s Kiva’s Emperor Form, piyu piyu piyu!
Have to admit, I haven’t been keeping up with Kiva like I did Kabuto. The time switching got annoying by the fifth episode so I dropped it. IXA looks pretty cool, but it just hasn’t done much to win me back. I’ll be waiting to check out the real movie (not that stupid crossover with Den-O). But yeah, Kamen Rider Kiva just hasn’t held my interest.
AZM ally Mike Dent sent over this magazine scan of Goku. Why have all the magazine scans been from Japan? Oh well.
I think it looks like he got some left over “hair gel” up in his doo. You know, I just thought of who I’d want to see instead of this guy as Goku. Dante Bosco! RUFI OOOOO!!! Seriously, the world needs more Dante Bosco. The hell has been up to lately? I know he voices Prince Zuko for Avatar, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen him in anything. Ah well.
Exia, gets those hard-to-reach places in the shower!
AZM regular Kevin Bahrt sends word that Sci Fi channel will air Gundam OO starting in November. Two episodes will run each week for a 13 week run.
The question is, does America give two shits about Gundam? I know I do. But the franchise really hasn’t reached a significant US audience, at least not significant enough to keep the toys on the shelves. Hopefully, Sci Fi won’t make the mistake that Cartoon Network did with Seed and edit out all the good shit. What little I’ve seen of Gundam OO will certainly appeal to the action crowd. And if most US Gundam fans think of Wing as classic Gundam (*shudder*), OO should be right up their alley.
So, will we see Lockon Statos cosplay next con season? Or is Gundam a lost cause for the US?
Domo now has his own English language website. You gotta check out this DDR inspired Domo Dance game! HAHAH!
If memory serves, Domo-kun was part of an ad campaign for Japanese television station NHK. His popularity outside of Japan has grown vast and wide. Not only does he have this awesome site, but he also has his very own Veoh channel!
Wow, I remember seeing all those old ones years ago. This one is still my favorite.
It’s a bit old, but thanks to YouTube we can now witness the Super Deformed reenactment of the One Year War! SD Mobile Suit Gundam FTW! I love the SD Jet Stream Attack. There are a whole mess of these that I’ve never seen before because I had no way of tracking them down.
Oh, and this little clip is from SD Gundam Sengokuden where they put the SD Gundam in samurai armor. I think this is one of the first appearances of Musha Gundam. The SD Musha Gundam was actually my very first Gundam model kit. I had no idea they animated these guys so this is a real treat! Double Zeta’s voice is so cool and sexy!
This is a year or so old, but this David Tenant, Catherine Tate sketch for Comic Relief 2007 is doubly hysterical now that they’re together as the Doctor and Donna Noble. I’m sad the Doctor is going away until 2010. But at least we have a few specials to look forward to!
The dreamy eyes of Vigo Mortensen compel you to vote no on AFTRA’s deal with the AMPTP. Like a number of actors, he’s both an SAG and AFTRA member. A no vote is not a strike authorization. But it would force AFTRA to go back to the negotiating table. SAG President Alan Rosenberg explains just why the AFTRA deal is so damaging to actors.
So now this is all starting to make a little more sense. I can totally respect artist not wishing to endorse products they don’t believe in or possibly loosing existing endorsements because of competitive product placement. Product placement is horribly annoying anyway. Okay, the Moutain Dew bot shooting cans at everyone was amusing in Transfuckyou. I kind of question the effectiveness though. I can’t for the life of me remember what phone Tony Stark was using yet I know the company paid big bucks to put the thing in his hands.
Anyway, not sure of the timeline here regarding when the vote will take place. I also think it’s quite telling that Rosenberg clarified that a no vote does not mean a vote to strike. Perhaps the SAG recognizes the weakness of their current position. More as it comes.
More actors weigh in with their opinions over at SAG TV.
AZM regular and giant robot anime expert Kevin Bahrt sent over two trailers for the new Rebuild of Gainax’s golden egg generator, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Oooh, green glowies! Eva-06 looks pretty badass and new. And those Adams or Lilin+1 or whatever they are, too cute.
There’s a lesson to be learned for all future anime producers. If your show gets really popular, throw out some crazy, drug induced, experimental, incomprehensible last two episodes and you can milk that teat for years to come. Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (I am here with you, though you’re far away, I am here to stay… sorry) was released last September and was fairly successful from what I understand. Evangelion: 2.0 Division should come out sometime this year. Evangelion: 3.0 and Evangelion: Final will be shown together. And I suspect ten years after Final, we’ll get Evangelion: The Search For More Moeny!
I can’t think of another series that has been remixed as many times as Eva. Well, I guess Gundam has had way more iterations. But at least they’re sequels are alternate timelines, not straight remixes of the exact same story over and over again. The new Zeta movies are the closest Gundam has ever come to just jacking old footage and sexing it up with a few new animated sequences.
As an artist, I can understand going back to tweak old work. Clearly, the market will bear countless Eva remixes. Gainax has grown such a powerful brand that fans eat up any new Eva content even if it’s just the same stuff with some green glowies added. And I suppose you need money to fund your other projects that might not be as well received. Still, seems like a bit of a cop out on a Hollywood scale. And you know those last two movies will make just as much sense as the ending of any Eva series. More comprehensible my ass.
And here’s a different Ken getting ready to go all Gatchaman on Ryu!
That’s right people, Capcom continues its versus series with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom!
Tatsunoko is the animation studio behind Gatchaman, Tekkaman, Casshan, Speed Racer, and a whole mess of other mind blowing anime! And of course, you know Capcom. So far, we’ve seen Ryu, Chun Li, some Rival Schools guy, Casshern, Ken, and Tekkaman in action. Can’t wait to see who they reveal next. I read on their Wikipedia entry that Tatsunoko also did Macross. Could we get some sweet Zentradi action in the house? It looks like they’re using sweet cell shaded 3D sprites for the fighters which looks absolutely gorgeous. Must see game play footage!
Unfortunately, the license nightmare almost guarantees that we won’t be getting this states side. Boo! This is such an awesome pairing, much better than MK vs. DC.
