Kamen Rider Wizard Shows Off His Bling

Look at all his shiny rings! Kind of disappointed he doesn’t give the belt a high-five to transform. That hand is begging for a slap. Kamen Rider NUTSLAP, HENSHIN! Looks like we’re getting a continuation of the color change Rider, a convention established by Kuuga. Red is Flame Style, Blue is Water Style, Green is Hurricane Style, Yellow is Land Style.

As for the suit itself, the helmet is kind of a throwback to Faiz. It’s like Kaixa had a kid. The chest area kind of reminds me of V3 which is a nice little tribute. Kamen Rider Wizard premiers in September.

BooyakaSHAAAAAA!

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive trailer for Nickelodeon’s reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It’s pretty cute. I really like the turtle designs. I like Shredder with pop out claws. No April or Splinter which doesn’t mean that they won’t be there. I think April is kind of necessary as a viewpoint character to help the audience relate to the show. Overall, I think it’s going to be a fun little series.

However, the Turtles are far from teenagers. They first hit the scene in 1984, twenty-eight years ago in a time when ninjas were the shit. Ninjas these days aren’t so badass. Part of me is a little disappointed that it’s such a familiar reboot. I get it, it’s a show for kids just like the first show, but the comic book was anything but. It would be nice to see a more dark take on the Turtles in animated form or at least an older set of Turtles. Or hell, some new anthropomorphic thing because honestly, the Turtles are kinda played out.

I suppose it’s possible that this new show will indeed have a darker tone. Shredder definitely looks more lethal than any previous version. And Legend of Korra is a pretty dark show. I’m cautiously optimistic.

The Doctor, Good As Gold

“Adventure setting” seems like kicking the steering wheel repeatedly until something happens.

So apparently, this little Doctor Who minisode was written by some primary school kids for a competition. Pretty cute. And I suspect it will tie in to show continuity what with a Weeping Angel left to roam around the TARDIS.

That Time the Animaniacs Parodied Super Sentai

I totally forgot they did this! I absolutely loved Animaniacs and while I was also a fan of Power Rangers, I don’t think I was as big a Super Sentai fan as I am today. Otherwise, I would have remembered this as THE BEST ANIMANIACS EPISODE IN THE ENTIRE RUN OF THE SHOW!

Right!

The First Episode of TRON: UPRISING

Much like “Legend of Korra,” Disney just released the first episode of “TRON: UPRISING” weeks before its television debut. I was initially skeptical about the character designs, but they grew on me. We get to see a quick recap of the first TRON in the opening segment of this episode as well as a quick primer of The Grid that Flynn built that features in TRON: LEGACY. I especially like that it opens in 4:3 aspect ratio with a shot of Flynn’s arcade and then switches to 16:9 when we get into The Grid. Nice touch!

I suspect Tumblr will be flooded with Beck/Paige shippers. I think that’s probably a relationship that will come to fruition during the course of the show. I’ll have to give it the old five episode test, but so far, I like what I see. I’m really curious to see how TRON got from where he is in this show to RINZLER in TRON: LEGACY. TRON: UPRISING is getting a primetime slot premiering on June 7 at 9pm, Thursday night. I’m looking forward to it!

TRON Uprising

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for TRON so even though I’m not a big fan of the character designs for “TRON: Uprising,” I’m excited to see this. I love that there are nods to the first film throughout this like the design of some of the Red guards and the tanks. I believe this fills in the gap between the first and second films so unfortunately, we know that Beck’s quest to save the Grid from Clue doesn’t quite turn out the way he’d hope. But I’m still interested in seeing this.

The Stark Children Sing

“Why yes, let’s get the Stark children to sing the opening credits in their actor’s commentary for our show.”

Ladies and gentlemen, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Isaac Hempstead Wright as the Stark children. Fucking brilliant!
