Beware Cuteness for There Lies the Path to the Dark Side

Starting your car remotely isn’t such a big deal anymore, but this Super Bowl spot for the 2012 Volkswagon Passat makes that feature seem like the greatest thing ever. My favorite commercial of the night.

Thundercats Are On the Move. Again.

New Thundercats

Angry Zen Minion John Smith and AZM Ally Kensei Dave sent along word that Thundercats will be on the move once again thanks to WBA and Studio4°C.

I quite like the redesigns. Cheetara is actually wearing something that looks battle-ready. In fact, I like all the new outfits. They all have a nice, practical armor look. I also love anything that Studio4°C does. Their work is always top notch.

Having said all that, I’m kind of meh on this whole thing. I think it would be fun as a movie or maybe a mini series, but an entire new series? Meh. I mean, I’m sure it’s going to be awesome because, well, Studio4°C knows their shit. I just wish it was a completely new IP like Lightning Pigeons or Tsunami Pandas or Drizzle Foxes. Actually, Tsunami Pandas sounds kinda awesome. I might use that for something.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Use Action Figure Butts to Steal Powers of Previous Sentai Teams

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger will take over for Tensou Sentai Goseiger on February 13. The Gokaigers are pirate rangers who can use the powers of all previous rangers, kind of like the Kamen Rider Decade of the Sentai series. With a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie on the way, I can’t help but think that this year’s theme was chosen on purpose.

I have always wondered what Captain Harlock would be like if he was a Power Ranger. Not really. I guess pirates are cool. I hate the theme less than I hate the Goseigers which isn’t actually saying all that much.

I was wondering how they would access the old ranger powers. Decade used his deck of cards. If you fast forward this clip to the 1:53 mark, you’ll see the Gokaiger team pull out a number of Red Ranger action figures with keys sticking out of their butts. Ah, butts, the best way to henshin to the past. Honestly, though, this gimmick intrigues me. Not the butt gimmick, but the stealing powers from the past gimmick. I loved that Kamen Rider Decade was so fan servicey for the past Rider shows and I’m hoping that Gokaiger will be the same for Sentai. I haven’t watched nearly as much Sentai as I probably should so it’ll be neat to see some of these old suits in action.

I wonder of Aka Red will show up. His collar is the freaking best!

Wonder Woman Returns to the Small Screen

Lynda Carter

The last time we ever saw a live action Wonder Woman in television, she had the best henshin background music but possibly the worst henshin move ever:

So the 70’s were a little disco. At least they had a Wonder Woman (we’re talking live action, non-porn parody version of Wonder Woman.). The 80’s had no Wonder Woman, the 90’s had no Wonder Woman, the 00’s had no Wonder Woman. I was beginning to think that the 10’s would continue this Wonder Woman-free trend, but according to AZM Ally Kensei Dave, we have word that Wonder Woman will return to the small screen on NBC.

Let’s see what we’ve got here:

The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. “I had a lot of fun writing it,” [David] Kelley said of the script at TCA last week when the project had just been put on hold. “It’s a huge project, and it was probably a bit too much to ask anyone to try to chew on it for next season. But I’m confident it will still happen. It’s a very complicated piece, which is the most fun thing about it.”

They’ve worked out the financing and now the project has a green-light. This sadly probably kills any chance we’ll see Wondy on the big screen for at least a season or two, but at least it’s something! And it’s about damn time.

Since we haven’t seen anything but this rather broad synopsis, there’s plenty of room for speculation. I think what will really clinch it is the casting of Diana. I’m not terribly impressed with setting the show in L.A., but if they get the right actor for Diana, I’ll be more willing to ignore some stupid choices here and there.

So it’s time to dust off the casting game, second guess the casting agents, and come up who we’d like to see play Wonder Woman. I’m throwing in an early vote for Charisma Carpenter. She was rumored to be involved with Joss Whedon’s version and I’ve always liked the idea of her in the golden bracelets. Who do you think should be televisions Wonder Woman?

The Doctor And Amy Talk to Us American Who Fans!

Stetsons are cool! I can’t wait for the new season!!!

Either The Aliens Killed Off All the Minorities, or “Falling Skies” Takes Place in the Midwest

“Falling Skies” looks like a cross between a “V” remake with a District 9 look. And I suppose, as a big sci-fi geek, this kind of thing should be right up my alley. But as I watched this trailer, I couldn’t help but notice a decided lack of minorities. This either means that the aliens decided to kill off all the non-white people on the planet in their first wave of attack or that this series takes place in somewhere in the midwest where there are fewer of us non-white people.

Either way, I’m really disappointed. If it’s the former, it’s sad to think that the aliens are not only specist but racist as well. Stupid racist aliens.

If it’s the latter, it still sucks because quite frankly I’m tired of seeing White people run away from aliens. We get it, aliens hate White people. Why are they always the victims of alien attacks? Doesn’t seem fair to me.

I will not be watching “Falling Skies” when it debuts in June partly to protest the lack of minorities running from aliens, partly to protest the victimization of White people. Sorry TNT, but either way I look at it your premise just doesn’t hold up.

A Little Game of Nighttime, Daytime

It’s the week between XMassacre and the New Year and if anyone is reading this I feel well sorry for you because like me, you are spending this week of limbo at your cubicle pondering just why the fuck you didn’t save up your vacation hours to take this week off. So to distract you from staring at that letter opener and the veins in your wrist for too long, here’s some randomly silly animal video from the BBC that kept the entire family entertained over the weekend. Who knew giraffes used their necks as clubs!
